New Knitwear Drop
When people search “what is the best knitwear?” or “why is Merino wool so expensive?”, the answer almost always comes back to one thing: quality of fibre and how it’s made.
At McIntyre Merino, we specialise in premium Merino wool knitwear designed for longevity, comfort, and performance. Here’s exactly what makes our knitwear high-end—and why it stands apart from standard wool or synthetic alternatives.

Premium knitwear is defined by three key factors:
Fibre quality (what it’s made from)
Yarn construction (how the fibre is spun)
Garment construction (how it’s knitted and finished)
Most knitwear on the market cuts corners in at least one of these areas. We don’t. We only make with Merino so we are focused on the fibre, and the quality control at all parts of the manufacturing process.

Not all Merino wool is equal.
Australia produces some of the finest Merino wool in the world due to its climate and breeding expertise. At McIntyre Merino, our wool is sourced from Australia farms like ours, we use OEKTO-TEX 100 & woolmark certified yarns and suppliers.
Consistent fibre quality
Ethical and transparent sourcing
Stronger, longer-lasting yarns
This level of control is rare—and it’s a key reason our garments sit at the premium end of the market.

A key search term in knitwear is “soft wool sweaters”—and softness comes down to fibre diameter.
Fine Merino wool (17–19 microns) = ultra-soft, next-to-skin comfort
Coarser wool (25+ microns) = itchier, heavier feel
We prioritise fine fibres that deliver a smooth, luxurious handle without compromising durability.

Many people ask: “Is expensive knitwear worth it?”
The answer depends on longevity.
Premium Merino knitwear:
Holds its shape over time
Resists pilling (when made with longer fibres)
Requires less washing (which reduces wear)
Fast fashion knitwear often pills, stretches, and loses structure within a season. A well-made Merino garment can last for years.
